The first page of the notebook gives an equation for calculating time of death.

Have a close look at all loose police notes (i.e. notes that were torn from a police notebook).

One of the loose police notes (the one that begins with: "Got a call at...") mentions that Summer's rectal temperature was measured 10:53AM and recorded to be 96 degrees Fahrenheit.

The first page of the police notebook gives the glaister equation for calcualting time of death. The equation is: (98.4 - rectal temperature of victim)/1.5= hours since death.

If we apply this calculation to Summer, we get: (98.4-96)/1.5=1.6, which translates into one hour and 36 minutes. Working backwards, if Summer's temperature was measured at 10:53AM, she would haave been killed one hour and 36 minutes before that, which puts her time of death at approximately 9:17AM.

Which suspect has an alibi for 9:17AM?

Have a close look at the website www.blackrosestattoos.com (there is a link to the website and QR code in the page from "The Seattle Scene").

Read the Seattle Times article carefully.

The Seattle Times article reports a mugging on September 14th at 9:15AM and lists the location. Find the approximate location on the Highland Park map.

The mugging happened at the intersection of Devonshire and Keele road, which is about 8-10 miles away from Still Rock, where Summer was murdered. It would be impossible for someone to commit the mugging mentioned in the article at 9:15AM and murder Summer at 9:17AM.

The Seattle Times article mentions the mugging suspect has a distinctive tattoo.

The Seattle Times reports that the mugging suspect had a tattoo of a pitbull and the words "Game Over". This is a such a unique tattoo, that if someone has it, we can assume they are the suspected mugger. On www.blackrosestattoos.com , there's pictures of clients and tattoos they've gotten. One of the tattoos is a tattoo of a pitbull with the words "Game Over". The client listed for the tattoo is Dante Turner. Dante is the muggnig suspect, and so Dante could not have murdered Summer. Note that the description for the mugging suspect (5'5" to 5'6", brown hair) match the characteristics listed in Dante's Offender Record (5"6", brown hair).

Also note that the there was a size XL black men's tshirt found in the Highland Park trash bin (alongside other pieces of evidence that were discarded, like bloody gloves and the murder weapon), which would likely be too large for Dante (who's relatively short and slim at 135 pounds). A size small black shirt was left at the crime scene (in Summer's office), but it's not clear that Summer's killer wore that shirt (it was soaked with blood, like it had been used to mop something up). It seems more liekly that the killer wore the size XL shirt and discarded it along with other pieces of physical evidence (like the gloves). it's not clear yet why the size small shirt was left at the scene of the crime or what it was used for.

We can eliminate Dante.

Ezra killed Summer. To figure out Ezra's motive, make sure you examine the following pieces of evidence carefully: the postcard, Summer's notes on Ethan Barrett, and the Still Rock Website.

Check the return address on the postcard.

Compare the return address to places the Still Rock employees have worked (go on the Still Rock website).

Who is Aloha? (from the postcard) Read through the Ethan Barrett therapy notes carefully.

Aloha is Ethan's friend from the military, Nolan McPherson.

When did Ethan and Nolan serve in the military?

Who is Nolan? Does his timeline (of when he served in the military) conflict with anything? (Check the Still Rock website carefully to answer both of these questions).

Ezra Moore is Nolan McPherson. We know this because:

1) The postcard Ethan received from "Aloha" was from Nolan McPherson. We know this because:

- In Summer's "Session 5" notes, she mentions that Ethan brought in a postcard (to a session) that was from someone he served with.

Summer's therapy notes state that Ethan served in the military with Nolan McPherson, whom he shares a birthday which. The postcard from "Aloha" references his and Ethan's shared birthday.

- Ethan tells Summer that the men in his military unit gave each other nicknames based on their favorite foods. Ethan tells Summer about a shared birthday party with Nolan and implies that Nolan's favorite food is hawaiian pizza. This lines up with Nolan's nickname being "Aloha".

2) The postcard was sent in 2015 from an address where Ezra was working in 2015 (466 Oak Street, Havenwood, California).

Other facts that point to Ezra being Nolan (but don't prove it on their own) are:

- Ezra's dating profile says he loves pizza (and he suggests pizza to a woman he messages). Nolan's favorite food is hawaiian pizza.

- In Summer's 4th of July blog post, she mentions Ezra leaving abruptly after the fireworks. This is consistent with Ezra having PTSD. Ethan has PTSD from witnessing an explosion that Nolan also witnessed, so there's a good chance Nolan has PTSD.

- The postard is from Easter Island. We know Ezra likely visited Easter Island because there is a photo of Easter Island in his dating app profile.

If Summer finds out that Ezra is Nolan McPherson, what else would she find out? If you're not sure, compare details in Ethan's therapy notes (focus on what Ethan says about when he and Nolan served together) to information on the homepage of the Still Rock website.

Ezra's motive is preventing Summer from finding out he's a fraud (not a doctor).

We know Ezra is a fraud because:

- Ethan tells Summer (in Ethan's therapy notes) that he served with Nolan during the same time Ezra claims to have been in medical school (on the Still Rock website, it says Ezra graduated medical school in 2008, so he would have been in medical school from 2004-2008. Ethan says he served with Nolan in the military between 2006-2008 (at least, it might have been longer).

Think about why Jessica was eliminated as a suspect.

Jessica was eliminated because she couldn't have been taking an antidepressant that Summer's killer had been taking (which we knew because of the toxicology report). What was the antidepressant? Is there any evidence Ezra was taking it?

The antidepressant is an MAOI called Phenelzine. There is a pill bottle with a prescription for Phenelzine. But how do we know who the prescription belongs to? The only clue about who the prescription belongs to is a small duck figurine inside.

On the "Interview" page, Dr. Ross McPherson mentions his son gave him a glow in the dark duck figurine. If you want to be sure that the duck figurine in the pill bottle is the same figurine Dr. McPherson describes, see if its glows in the dark (it does).

Are there any clues linking Dr. McPherson to Ezra?

Who does the hedgehog bag belong to? Remember what was in the bag (a beer bottle opener with "Fredericksburg, Texas" written on it).

Read the "About" page on the Still Rock website (www.stillrockpsychiatry.com) carefully.

Also, read the "Resilience Rise" (PTSD forum) printout carefully.

On the Still Rock website, Ezra says his favorite animals are hedgehogs. The hedgehog bag is Ezra's. Inside the hedgehog bag is a keychain from Fredericksburg, Texas (a very small town).

In Dr. McPherson's interview, he says he is from Fredericksburg, Texas. Dr. McPherson also mentions he is estranged from his son, who has PTSD, and that his son gave him a glow in the dark duck figurine.

The "Resilience Rise" printout features a post by a user named "quillmaster8".This user's profile picture is a hedgehog. In their post, they mention struggling with PTSD, being estranged from their parents, and their parents being mental health professionals.

From this information, we can infer that Ezra is Dr. McPherson's estranged son (and "quillmaster8" is Ezra). The duck figurine (found in the Phenelzine - i.e. the antidepressant - pill bottle) is Ezra's. The phenelzine prescription is Ezra's. Summer's killer was taking phenelzine (an uncommon antidepressant).

The pill bottle connects Ezra (the killer) to Summer's murder.

Ezra killed Summer because he was afraid Summer would find out he was a fraud. Ezra thought Summer might find out about his past through Ethan Barrett, one of Summer's patients. Ethan and Ezra served in the military together, but back then, Ezra went by the name Nolan McPherson. If Ethan doesn't know that Ezra is Nolan (and vice-versa), how would Ethan "expose" Ezra's past?

Ethan knows Ezra as Nolan McPherson, so how would Summer find out about Ezra's past through Ethan?

Read through Ethan's therapy notes carefully. What kind of therapy were Ethan and Summer doing? What did their sessions consist of?

Read the Prolonged Exposure Therapy Guide carefully.

Step 5 (Week 6) of the Prolonged Exposure Therapy Guide is "Photograph Exposure". One of week 6's tasks is to "encourage the veteran to bring in photographs related to their military experience, such as pictures of military friends in uniform or deployment locations".

We can assume that there's a strong chance that Ethan would have brought in a picture of Ezra (given how close they were). When approximately would Ethan's 6th session (i.e. week 6, seeing as he was having weekly sessions) have been?

Ethan's week 6 would have fallen on the week of September 16th - i.e. the week after Summer was murdered. But, it's not enough for us to know when Ethan's week 6 would have been. What's important is that Ezra knew when Ethan's week 6 was (and that Ezra knew that Smmer was following this guide in treating Ethan). How do we know that Ezra knew Ethan was likely going to be bringing in a photo of him (Ezra) on the week of September 16th?

Look through all emails carefully.

Ezra knew Ethan would likely bring in a photo of him (Ezra) on the week of September 16th because Summer shared details about Ethan's therapy with Jessica and Ezra during the case conference held on August 14th, 2019 the Case Conference email shows that Ezra knew Summer's patient was Ethan Barrett and that Ethan had had one session with Summer. Following the case conference, Summer emailed the Prolonged Exposure Therapy Guide to Ezra and Jessica, so Ezra knew the timeline Summer was using for Ethan's therapy. Ezra knew Ethan had attended one session with Summer as of August 14th (noted in case conference email) and knew the Prolonged Exposure Therapy sessions were weekly, so could figure out when Ethan's 6th week would have been.

The Case Conference email and Prolonged Exposure Therapy guide show Ezra timed Summer's murder to make sure Ethan wouldn't have his 6th session with Summer and expose him (Ezra) as a fraud.
